2018 AIA New Jersey President Verity Frizzell, FAIA will discuss the AIA National Equity in Architecture Commission report with findings and recommendations for expanding and strengthening the commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in every practice.

The commission—comprised of leading architects, educators and diversity experts—was formed in 2015 to address concerns about disproportionate demographics among those in the profession.

During the presentation, attendees will learn about demographics in the design and construction industry, AIA programs to address equity issues in the profession, and the commission’s recommendation on how to move the industry forward. The presentation will be followed with a Q&A.

Dinner and Presentation at 7:00PM

Join us at the cocktail hour for EPiC Trivia Night.  ARE Candidates, AXP Mentors, Supervisors and Co-workers are all encouraged to test their knowledge!

Design Within Reach / Herman Miller have graciously offered their venue for our use and agreed to sponsor both the bar and food for our April meeting.  The Architects League of Northern New Jersey would like to thank them for their hospitality and ongoing support.

Design Within Reach offers the world’s largest selection of authentic modern furniture, lighting and accessories from designers past and present.  Design Within Reach exists to make authentic modern design accessible. Authentic means that it’s the real thing. They don’t do “inspired by” or “just as good as” or “in the spirit of.” When they were founded in 1998, consumers simply weren’t able to buy the classics at retail. To find them, they had to visit Europe or work with intermediaries. Design Within Reach changed that by making innovative works from iconic designers accessible for the first time, and they have continued to provide the best in modern design ever since. Accessible means that it can be seen and touched (taken for a “test drive,” as DWR likes to say) and that it’s in stock. At DWR, they are passionate about design – past, present and future.

More Information about Design Within Reach can be found here at their website.

Our meeting will be held at the Design Within Reach Studio in Paramus, NJ.
