The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) has released new data outlining the current state of diversity within the field of architecture. The results indicate that while diversity among licensure candidates is improving, the rate at which non-white individuals are abandoning their pursuit of licensure remains high. In addition, gender equity remained largely unchanged over the past year, though women are still underrepresented in the field.
In an effort to fuel greater diversification, 2018 President Verity Frizzell, FAIA, has been focusing extra attention on AIA New Jersey Equity in Architecture committee’s creating and collecting programming for K-12 presentations and participating in competitions and workshops across the state were our members of all walks of life can model what its like to be an architect to tomorrow’s generation of professionals.
Over the coming weeks and months, we will be featuring stories and highlights from AIA New Jersey members who are defying those trends reported by NCARB. Please join us in celebrating these members and also be sure to bring this message out into your community by booking a school presentation in your own municipality.
