Introducing AIA New Jersey’s Young Architect Regional Director, Jessica O’Donnell, AIA

My name is Jessica O’Donnell, AIA and I am honored to be the 2017-2018 Young Architect Regional Director (YARD) of AIA New Jersey. This national position with the Young Architect’s Forum (YAF) gives me the opportunity to work with my counterparts from other AIA regions throughout the country to provide targeted member benefits for recently licensed architects. It is a common misnomer that the ‘young’ in Young Architect’s Forum refers to age; it actually refers to architects licensed ten years or less.

The Young Architect’s Forum is the voice of recently licensed Architects and the catalyst for progress within the Institute (AIA). We have three goals that drive our mission: promoting leadership, mentorship, and fellowship for the future of the profession.

We ENGAGE recently licensed Architects in leadership to become agents of change within the Institute and the profession overall.

We INSPIRE professional growth among recently licensed Architects through fellowship within the Institute.

We ADVOCATE for issues of particular relevance to recently licensed Architects to the Institute.

We SERVE to make AIA memberships meaningful to recently licensed Architects through programs and services that effectively anticipate, meet and exceed their needs.

We PROMOTE mentorship at all career stages to enhance personal growth, community involvement, and professional development.

This year I will be part of the Knowledge Focus Group within the YAF, where I will specifically work on programming and workshop development for ‘A19 and Grassroots 2019. This group will also work to share successful seminar and educational topics at the national level so it can be available to members from all AIA regions.

My role as YARD includes several responsibilities with AIA New Jersey. I am part of the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees as well as an advisor to AIA NJ EPiC. EPiC is the main conduit through which the programming and information is relayed to AIA NJ members. The YAF e-publication ‘Connections’ is also distributed through the AIA NJ Newsletter. Interested in getting involved or learning more about YAF? I would like to hear from you! Reach out via email at yaf@aia-nj.org.
