Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Architecture and Design Journal of the Young Architects Forum, YAF Connection, edition 16.01, features two articles of interest by AIA New Jersey/ AIA South Jersey members.

On pages 120-121, AIA New Jersey 2017-19 regional representative to the AIA national Strategic Council, Bruce D. Turner, AIA, describes the work and progress of the Business Model Innovation Study Group and the establishment of the AIA Research Advisory Group. Mr. Turner’s article is titled Innovation in Architectural Practice. It discusses the research of the group, their identification of innovation, business model and prosperity as key factors for each individual business to examine under the lens of their firm’s unique perspective and lastly remarks on the breadth and variety of resources already available through the institute to inform members on best practices and revolutions in innovation as well as hinting at the future benefit available through the upcoming launch of the Center for Practice.

The very next piece, on pages 122-125, titled Evolving Specifications, is brought to us by our member and founding principal of the largest independent consulting firm in the US, David Stutzman, AIA. This paper explores the idea of applying existing concepts and documents in a new way to produce a better result for our clients, the owners. Specifically, highlighting the benefits of Uniformat, and how it can work in concert with the more commonly know MasterFormat, to provide a significantly more comprehensive set of project specifications.

We invite you to read their articles, and more in YAF Connection, here.
