Today is the 2019 International Women’s Day. This year’s initiative, #BalanceForBetter, is aimed at gender equality, a greater awareness of discrimination and a celebration of women’s achievements, according to the International Women’s Day website. New Jersey is a state that is truly a melting pot, with a large population of citizens from every corner of the globe. While the architecture profession is not highly integrated with international representation, AIA New Jersey members have a much better opportunity at diversifying their firms than many other practices across the country. The benefits of actively seeking out a diverse population are creating a culture of understanding, tolerance and inclusivity in our schools, practices and professions. Today, on 2019 International Women’s Day, we challenge our member firms to lay plans for increasing equity in your practices over this year. To help facilitate this challenge, the AIANJ Equity in Architecture Committee is offering a six-part series of lectures on the AIA National Guide to Equitable Practice around the state. Please save the dates! Details to follow.
