AIA New Jersey’s Featured Woman In Architecture, Nancy Dougherty, AIA, Lives By Her Credo, “Great Design For All”

Nancy Dougherty, AIA, is a LEED accredited, licensed Architect with over 25 years of experience in a wide
range of practice areas. In 2018, she celebrated 10 years at Studio 1200, an Architecture and Design firm
in Short Hills. With Sandee Markwith as the other principal, Studio 1200 is a fully woman-owned
business.

Always trying to anticipate the next step, Nancy understands that being proactive and creative is the key
to moving projects forward successfully. She develops long-standing relationships with clients, based on
her ability to listen to their needs, and transform those needs into well thought out and carefully crafted
solutions.

Nancy’s passion for great design extends beyond work-related projects. She is very involved in
introducing children to architecture through workshops and large group activities. She is also proud to
be a “Big Sister” mentor through the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern New Jersey and go on
adventures with her “little sister”. Nancy is also committed to the community and has served on the
boards of various local organizations.

Two of Nancy’s interests that are both personal and professional include accessibility and sustainability.
As part of the manifestation of her credo “great design for all”, she has worked closely on a number of
projects for people with mobility issues to provide thoughtful, stylish, and functional living spaces. Being
“green” is always one of Nancy’s goals and she has exemplified this through installing solar panels on
her home, and by instituting a lunch and learn series on sustainability at Studio 1200 for the staff.

Some of Nancy’s recent projects include the Greater Morristown YMCA, JESPY House, Liv Breads, Kent
Place, the Kessler Foundation, Park Avenue Club, and residential work in Maplewood, South Orange,
Short Hills, Millburn, Summit, Chatham, Madison, and beyond. #studio1200 #1200studio
