50 year resident of Haddonfield, NJ – On October 18, 2018, at the age of 77, beloved husband for 52 years of Connie (nee Connelly); loving father of Christine Courtney (Kenneth) of Haddonfield, Gabrielle Shamsey (John) of Pennington, Carolyn Stalnaker (Philip) of Bordentown, and Joe McCaffrey (Sara Vahabi) of Haddonfield; cherished Granddad of Bridget, Henry, Sam, JT, Anna, Josie, Gregory, Joey, and Leo. He is survived by his siblings Ed, Claire, Marie, and Tom, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Joe was born and raised in West Philadelphia, and was a 50 year resident of Haddonfield, NJ. He enjoyed spending much time in Avalon, NJ. Joe graduated from Penn State University in 1965 with a degree in Architecture. He continued to practice, as a licensed architect, through to his last days. He was originally associated with Robert D. Lynn Associates, a Philadelphia architecture firm specializing in hospital design, and then later associated with the Ewing Cole firm in Philadelphia as a senior hospital design architect.

Joe pursued many hobbies and interests. He loved to fish, and he was a voracious reader of history and historic fiction. Throughout his life, he enjoyed sketching and drawing (most notably exhibited in his annual hand-drawn Christmas cards of cathedrals). He was an avid fan of Penn State football, rarely missing a game. Beginning in childhood, Joe developed a life-long love of trains. This hobby evolved into his construction of and extensive train platform that depicted the landscape of Pennsylvania. He was proud of the YouTube video he created of his passion for his trains. It can be viewed at: “Joe’s South Jersey Line”. Feel free to have a look. Joe really enjoyed seeing how many “hits” his video received.

Donations in memory of Joe may be made to: The Colorectal Cancer Alliance (ccalliance.org) or The Haddonfield Ambulance Association (www.haddonfieldambulance.org).
