Three AIA New Jersey Women in Architecture Present at the NJIT CoAD Littman Library

Banafsheh Soltani, Benjamin Gross and Andrew Bruno offered perspectives outside of traditional architecture practice.

On May 7, 2019, Libertad Lauren Harris, Associate AIA; Banafsheh Soltani, Associate AIA and Stacey Ruhle Kliesch, AIA, presented their experience and advice to students of the New Jersey Institute of Technology College of Architecture and Design as they wrap up another amazing semester. The women were joined by design colleagues Renee Collins, Benjamin Gross and Andrew Bruno for a two hour, freestyle discussion/ Q&A session.

Topics ranged from, “What is the status of sustainability in today’s projects?” to, “How do I get started in development?” and, “I sent my resume to 100 firms and heard back from 2. Is that normal?” Librarian and event coordinator Maya Gervits was thrilled with the experience. She found the ideas to be valuable and felt she even learned from the speakers. Gervits is hoping to plan another similar event for the fall semester.

She also announced that the library is beginning to compile the history of the New Jersey School of Architecture in preparation for the 50th-anniversary celebration in 2021. All alumni, faculty, jurors and the community with comments, artifacts or memories to add to the collection are invited to contact the library to participate. They can be found on Facebook, Instagram or Messenger @littmanlibrary
