The AIA NJ Equity in Compensation Seminar was held at Avalon Flooring in Egg Harbor Township in the AIA South Jersey Section, on July 11, 2019. Thirteen members and allied professionals attended this lecture based on the AIA Guides to Equitable Practice given by Stacey Ruhle Kliesch, AIA, chair of the AIA NJ Equity in Architecture Committee.
The evening started with refreshments by our host, an introduction to Avalon Flooring by EVP of Sales, Brian Witkin, then a description of commercial services available by Cindy Leone, Director of Commercial Products and a showroom tour let by Brian and Jason DiLuigi, Showroom Manager. While Avalon is a familiar brand, most attendees were surprised and impressed with the variety of products and services available through Avalon Flooring.
The Equity Lecture was presented informally, with the audience invited to share questions and relevant experiences throughout the program. While this format has had varied success on other occasions, the contributions of audience members such as Brian Penschow, AIA, enriched the experience.
The entire audience gave the presentation strong ratings as the prior two Equity presentations have received.
The next seminar in the series, Equity in Recruitment and Retention, will take place on Monday, August 5th from 6-8PM at Pella Windows in Cherry Hill, NJ.
