October 17, 2019
Reading Time: 2 minutes
There are three upcoming events this fall with opportunities for committee members to volunteer:
STEAM Tank Finals – Two Days Judging Design Projects
Tuesday October 22, 2019 – 8:30am to 3pm
Wednesday October 23, 2019 – 8:30am to 3pm
Atlantic City Convention Center
The NJSBA is looking for additional judges/alternate for the STEAM Tank Finals. Presentations by teams of students are five minutes long followed by five minutes of questions from the panel of judges. There are separate categories for elementary, middle and high school teams, and schools from across the state participate. Judging is done on laptops per a rubric developed by the STEAM Tank Team. This is a two day commitment.
AIA-NJ Kids Design Day 2019 One Day working as a mentor
Wednesday November 6, 2019 – 9am to 2pm
Rutgers Camden Campus – South ABC Conference Room at the Campus Center
A program including campus/building tour, presentations and a group activity. This event will be similar in scope to the AIA-NJ Kids Design Day event held last November at NJIT. Volunteers would serve as mentors to the kids throughout the program.
All Girls Tower Challenge – One Day working as a mentor
Tuesday December 17, 2019 – 8am to 2pm
Tenafly High School
A new program still being developed involving a one day tower design competition. Teams consisting of six girls each from 12 different schools will compete. Judging will be based on a rubric and categories will include quality of design, efficiency based on limitations (FAR, setbacks, etc) and sketch model’s seismic performance. Volunteers would serve as judges/coordinators/advisers and would need to be available for the entire day long program.
Please contact me directly via email if you are available to volunteer for any of these programs.
Thanks,
