AIA New Jersey Supports Freedom of Design When Designing Federal Buildings

New Jersey’s architectural community commends President Biden on his decision to reverse the previous administration’s policy regarding standards of beauty for federal architecture. The American Institute of Architects, New Jersey Chapter, (AIA NJ) is a nonpartisan organization and architecture should also be nonpartisan. While all of our professionals have a deep and abiding respect for the iconic neo-classical buildings and monuments that celebrate our country’s achievements in the government of, by, and for the people, the history of federal architecture is one that reflects our growth and evolution as a nation, and its commitment to the pursuit of both science and art, allowing for new federal architecture to reflect the context, history, and style that is appropriate to the use and location.
