Learn about the complex preservation plan and process proposed for the Center.
Since 1993, significant work has been carried out to stabilize the building and landscape at the New Jersey- and National Register-listed James Rose Center. Its unique spatial configuration and extant original materials and features contribute to its historic integrity. Mills + Schnoering Architects prepared a Preservation Plan and Concept Design for the property in 2019 with the goal of designing a program of restoration and rehabilitation that would allow the building and landscape to be preserved, while upgrading their functionality to meet existing and future requirements. Challenges included finding ways to expand and enhance the building and landscape in keeping with Rose’s very specific design philosophy and examining options for creating safe occupancy and barrier-free access.
