Building the Future One Drawing at a Time opens April 5th

AIA Newark & Suburban Architects is thrilled to announce that it will hold an exhibition of art by Northern New Jersey area students, grades 6-12, and AIA architects, opening April 5, 2023, at the Main Branch of the Montclair Library. The show will run through April 28th, with an official reception on April 22nd, from 10am-1pm.

The exhibition will include drawings, paintings, and software renderings by students who entered our Winter Holiday Student Art Contest and were recognized with achievement awards for their creative and thoughtful designs.

Alongside these student designs, will be artwork by professional architects of the AIA who enjoy making art in their spare time. Daily, we can see what architects create—their important work surrounds us in the built environment. This exhibition, however, gives us further insight into what inspires members of this profession, and how they visualize the world in even more abstract and improvisational ways.

In conjunction with the art show, members of AIA Newark & Suburban Architects will conduct a book reading about architecture on Earth Day, April 22nd, from 10am to 1pm, at the Montclair Library’s auditorium. This read-aloud will act as a fitting culmination of a week that celebrates the profession that endeavors to make the world (aka Earth!) a better place for generations to come.

Through our public outreach, AIA Newark & Suburban Architects continues to encourage students to be creative in every way imaginable, and to think about the important role that architecture plays in our lives, and how it shapes where we all live, study, work, and play. The children are indeed our future, and with the creativity expressed in this exhibition, we can be reassured that the future is illumined with wondrous minds.

For more information about this exhibition, contact Robert Epstein, Component Director: (973) 771 6881 or by email: director@aians.org.

The Main Branch of the Montclair Library is located at 50 S Fullerton Ave, Montclair, NJ 07042. Please visit their website for hours of operation.

The mission of AIA Newark & Suburban Architects is to connect members of the architectural profession and the communities they serve through education, service, and support of the thoughtful design of the built environment.
