AIA New Jersey Women in Architecture Introduces Opportunities for Women in Business from the New Jersey Innovation Institute at the NJIT Corporation

Co-Hosts AIA NJ WIA Chair Erin Sharp-Newton and Past Chair Stacey Ruhle Kliesch, AIA will interview Tracy MacDonald, Director of Custom Learning at the Learning and Development Initiative of the New Jersey Innovation Institute.

The Learning and Development Initiative (LDI) is a division of NJIT, operating in collaboration with NJIT’s wholly owned non-profit, the New Jersey Innovation Institute (NJII). LDI connects individuals with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed through a dynamic portfolio of non-degree credentials, including courses, custom training programs, and workforce development opportunities. Learn More.

LDI has developed custom content tailored for women in architecture and business, offering skills-based learning, upskilling and reskilling programs, and non-degree credential workshops. These workshops—available in virtual, instructor-led, and interactive formats—are designed to empower and add value to AIA NJ women.

Founded in 2014 as a 501(c)(3) organization, NJII is an independent, non-profit corporation affiliated with NJIT. It is uniquely positioned to be agile, entrepreneurial, and results-driven. It’s strengths include: accelerating technology, fostering innovation, and driving workforce development to create a positive economic impact in New Jersey.

NJII leverages the vast resources of an R-1 research university, strong industry and government partnerships, and proven methods for building industry-centric ecosystems. With a team of 100+ professionals, NJII operates through four divisions:

  • AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning)
  • Defense
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Healthcare and Learning & Development

Both NJII and NJIT maintain active Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) Codes, which identify organizations conducting business with the federal government.

This webinar will introduce women in architecture to affordable and accessible professional development opportunities. Our guest speaker will guide attendees through available resources to help them stay competitive in today’s rapidly evolving world of innovation.

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify key non-degree credential opportunities and workforce development programs that support professional growth for women in architecture.
  • Explain how upskilling, reskilling, and targeted training initiatives can enhance career advancement and economic impact within the architecture industry.
  • Analyze the role of research-driven institutions and industry partnerships in fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and technical skill development within the built environment.
  • Evaluate accessible and affordable professional development pathways that enable women in architecture to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving industry.
