On April 13, the Architects League Community Film Night brought together members of the design community and the public at the Ridgewood Public Library for an engaging evening celebrating architecture through film in recognition of AIA Architecture Week.

The evening featured a screening of My Architect: A Son’s Journey, followed by a thoughtful Q&A with filmmaker Nathaniel Kahn and cinematographer Bob Richman, moderated by Stacey Ruhle Kliesch AIA LEED AP CID. The discussion offered a reflective look into the life and legacy of architect Louis Kahn, whose work continues to shape architectural discourse worldwide.

The documentary follows Nathaniel Kahn’s deeply personal journey to better understand his father, and features interviews with renowned architects, including B. V. Doshi, Philip Johnson, Frank Gehry, Edmund Bacon (architect), Shamsul Wares, I.M. Pei, Moshe Safdie and Anne Tyng. Throughout the film, Kahn visits all of his father’s buildings, including The Yale Center for British Art, The Salk Institute, Jatiyo Sangshad Bhaban, and the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.

A light reception preceded the screening, and AIA members earned continuing education credit for participation. The evening highlighted the power of film to deepen public understanding of architecture, legacy, and the human stories behind built form.
A heartfelt thank you to Nathaniel Kahn and Bob Richman for making this evening possible and for their generosity in sharing this remarkable story with our community!
