The American Institute of Architects New Jersey Chapter Historic Archives Committee is proud to present an interview with influential architect Albert F. Zaccone, FAIA.
Mr. Zaccone is a 1974 graduate of Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, and has been licensed by the State as a Professional Planner since 1988. He was among the first people in New Jersey to become a Certified Interior Designer.
A member of the American Institute of Architects, Zaccone served as President of the Architects League of Northern New Jersey and the New Jersey State Chapter, AIA-New Jersey.
In 2019, Al received AIA-New Jersey’s Distinguished Service Award and in 2020, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards’ President’s Medal for Distinguished Service.
Al serves as a professional board member and the chair of the Strategic Planning Committee at the New Jersey State Board of Architects. He has a long tenure on the board—having originally been appointed in 2003—and has previously served multiple terms as the board’s president.
A member of the Bergen-Passaic Municipal Inspectors Association, he has been a guest lecturer at Ramapo University, has chaired the NJ Coalition of Design Professionals and the Ridgefield Park Historic Preservation Commission, and was Vice-Chairman of the Bergen County Historic Advisory Board. His firm’s work has been published in The Record newspaper and featured in Architecture New Jersey, Better Homes and Gardens, and Design New Jersey magazines.
Albert Zaccone’s dedication to the architectural profession has been extensive and diverse, as demonstrated by his continuous leadership, initiative and creativity for over 40 years. He has advanced public awareness of the profession, protected it through legislative efforts, encouraged emerging professionals through innovative educational programs, and brought related professional organizations together in unity.
