Date: 11/10 from 12:30-1:30pm on Zoom

Hosted by the AIA NJ Historical Archives Committee

Description:

These presentations in celebration for the 125th Anniversary will provide the complex and curious history of AIA NJ in 3 parts.  This webinar is the second part that will offer us with an understanding of the organization’s “golden years” from 1950 through 1980s.  Through a series of newspaper articles, photographs, newsletters and personal memorabilia we are able to tell the very origins and continuation of our American Institute of Architects New Jersey Chapter.

We’ll explore how the NJSA and AIA NJ worked together in the mid-century to advocate for the profession, with stories of political lobbying, social gatherings, conferences, influential architects, and the establishment of a public school of architecture in NJ.  We will address the merger of the NJSA and the AIA in 1965.  Lastly, we will look into the beginnings of the troublesome times of the organization and the closure of the AIA NJ offices.

This webinar is for anyone, but specifically those interested in history, the architectural profession and the love of architecture
