USAI – Light & Wellness

1 LU/HSW

Lighting plays a powerful role in supporting human health and well-being. This course introduces the science behind circadian rhythms and demonstrates how lighting design can positively influence the human sleep/wake cycle.

Learning Objectives

1. Define circadian rhythm and understand how it impacts the human body’s sleep/wake cycle.

2. Identify the five controllable lighting parameters that affect circadian response.

3. Differentiate between the two primary circadian metrics and use the Circadian Stimulus calculator to determine successful design strategies for circadian entrainment.

4. Apply four lighting design techniques to create circadian-focused lighting solutions.

Integrated Ceiling and Lighting Solutions

Participants will explore the many benefits of integrated ceiling and lighting systems, including improved efficiency and enhanced aesthetics. The course also examines how these integrated solutions support occupant health and wellness by strengthening the connection between lighting design and overall well-being.

1. Explore the progression of lighting integration and the role of energy-efficient LED technology in ceiling design.

2. Identify common lighting integration pitfalls, understand their causes, and learn strategies to avoid them.

3. Evaluate the advantages of integrated ceiling and lighting systems in a variety of environments, with a focus on improving occupant well-being.
