AIA Central New Jersey Past President Roman Nicholas Chapelsky, 97, of Cranford, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2025, at Inglemoor Rehabilitation and Care Center, Livingston, New Jersey.
Roman worked in various architectural offices early in his career in residential and commercial architecture in New Jersey. He eventually joined the W.T. Grant Company, New York, New York, as Chief Architect and ultimately retired in 1988 from the J.C. Penney Co., Inc., New York, New York, as project manager for stores throughout the United States, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.
He was the past president of the Central Jersey Chapter of the New Jersey Society of Architects, MIT Club of Northern New Jersey, Cranford Housing Board, Cranford Board of Standards and Appeals and made significant contributions to the development of the Cranford Senior Housing Complex.
