Legislative & Government Affairs Committee
Advocating for the Profession. Protecting the Practice.
The AIA New Jersey Legislative & Government Affairs (L&GA) Committee serves as the voice of New Jersey’s architectural community in state and local policy discussions. This committee is actively engaged in monitoring, analyzing, and responding to proposed legislation and regulatory changes that impact architects, the built environment, and the public we serve.
Our Mission
The L&GA Committee works to:
- Advocate for laws and regulations that support the architectural profession and promote public health, safety, and welfare.
- Protect the practice of architecture from legislation that may undermine licensure, professional standards, or design integrity.
- Educate policymakers on the vital role architects play in shaping resilient, sustainable, and equitable communities.
- Collaborate with allied organizations and stakeholders to amplify the voice of architects in government decision-making.
What We Do
- Track legislation affecting architectural practice, licensure, building codes, procurement, land use, environmental policy, and more.
- Engage with legislators and regulatory bodies to inform and influence outcomes.
- Mobilize members through grassroots action alerts and advocacy campaigns.
Why It Matters
Architects are uniquely positioned to influence public policy on the most pressing issues of our time—climate change, housing, infrastructure, historic preservation, and more. AIA New Jersey’s L&GA Committee ensures that architects have a seat at the table when decisions are made that affect our profession and our communities.
