On Wednesday, April 29, members of the AIA Architects League of Northern NJ gathered at LEGOLAND New York for a walking tour of the resort led by park Architect Matthew Fink, AIA, and New York City officianado Joseph David, AIA.
Opened in 2022, LEGOLAND New York is the newest LEGOLAND attraction in the United States and one of twelve worldwide. This guided tour explored how the resort responds to a complex site through thoughtful planning, accessibility, and safety considerations, while delivering an immersive, entertainment-based environment rooted in the LEGO brand.
Participants gained insight into the dynamics of large-scale themed design, observed the safety requirements of mechanical attractions, and learned how the project has created positive community impact by supporting local infrastructure and small businesses. The tour included a visit to MiniLand, where attendees experienced an abbreviated history of New York through LEGO models of its most iconic architecture.
