AIA’s Next to Lead program is a 10-month leadership development training for racially and ethnically underrepresented women in architecture aspiring to become AIA leaders. The upcoming cohort runs from September 2026 to June 2027. Applications must be submitted via the AIA Next to Lead Portal by August 7, 2026.
Key Requirements & Deadlines
- Deadline: August 7, 2026
- Eligibility: You must be a current AIA Architect or Associate AIA member in good standing, identify as a woman, and identify as a member of a historically underrepresented racial or ethnic group.
- Experience: Requires at least five years of experience in architecture.
Application Materials
To apply, you will need to prepare and submit the following documents on the platform:
- Two Statements of Interest (500 words max each).
- Prompt 1: Outline your volunteer background/experience and commitment to AIA values (at the local, state, or national level).
- Prompt 2: Describe your commitment to serve AIA post-program, why you are a strong candidate, and what you hope to achieve.
- Two Letters of Support from an AIA member, Chapter leader, or your firm’s direct supervisor.
- Resume, Short Bio, and Professional Headshot.
Program Benefits
If selected, you receive complimentary registration and a travel stipend to participate in person at the Women’s Leadership Summit (WLS) and the AIA Leadership Summit.
