The History of AIA New Jersey 125 Years: Part 3 (1990s-present)

Join us for the final installment of our three-part webinar series celebrating 125 years of AIA New Jersey and exploring the complex, fascinating history of our organization.

In this final chapter, we’ll trace AIA New Jersey through a challenging period—from the closing of the chapter’s offices and significant financial hardship to the rebirth and evolution of the organization we know today.

Through historic newspaper articles, photographs, newsletters, and personal memorabilia, we’ll uncover the stories, people, and pivotal moments that shaped the continued legacy of the American Institute of Architects New Jersey Chapter.

We’ll explore how AIA New Jersey continued to advocate for the architectural profession, including efforts in the 1990s to clarify the distinct roles and responsibilities of architects and engineers. We’ll also look at the chapter’s transition from maintaining its own offices to partnering with a professional management firm, and how the organization navigated financial challenges while building a stronger foundation for the future.

Through it all, AIA New Jersey emerged as a more resilient organization—one rooted in education, equity, community service, environmental responsibility, and advocacy for the profession.

Whether you have been part of AIA New Jersey for decades or are simply curious about the history of architecture and the profession in New Jersey, this webinar offers a unique opportunity to discover where we came from and how that history continues to shape who we are today.

This program is open to everyone with an interest in history, architecture, the architectural profession, and the people and stories behind AIA New Jersey’s 125-year journey.
