Our next WIA NJ meeting hosted by Modernfold will be held on April 16th with the opportunity to speak with Robin L. Murray, FAIA.  Robin was elevated to fellow by the AIA for her national impacts in sustainability and smart growth, making her one of 400 women of 3000 fellows out of 80,000 members world-wide.   This is a great opportunity to meet and be inspired by a great leader in our industry. TOPIC: Eco-districts – 1 CEU

Eco-districts are comprehensive sustainable developments. They are the current form of communities that have been in existence for several decades. Initially called eco-villages in European countries the developments have incorporated both expanded sustainable policy and technology. They propose and often achieve full net zero water, energy and waste while providing mixed use, mixed income, multi modal developments. This talk will discuss Dockside Green, Victoria, BC, one of the most successful eco-district developments along with the Eco-district movement in Portland and how these are replicable in NJ.

All about Robin L. Murray, FAIA

Robin L. Murray FAIA PP LEED AP BD+C is a licensed architect and planner. She has extensive experience in sustainable master planning, mixed use developments and a broad variety of building projects. She maintains a private practice and is an adjunct professor at the Bloustein School of Planning, Rutgers University. She recently completed a year-long grant funded research initiative on all cutting edge aspects of sustainability policy and implementation. She was elevated to fellow by the AIA for her national impacts in sustainability and smart growth, making her one of 400 women of 3000 fellows out of 80,000 members world-wide. Her work has been published in ULI Urban Land and APA Planning. Her studios focus on comprehensive sustainable community design. Ms Murray has spoken at national and regional conferences such as AIA, APA, ULI, EPA, New Partners for Smart Growth, NJ DCA, DEP, DOT and has been a juror for national and regional AIA, EPA, ACI awards. She is a founding member and President of the Delaware Valley Smart Growth Alliance, the second program of its kind in the US providing smart growth recognition and support to projects. As a former regional director for AIA NJ, she was a national AIA board member and on the national committee for the AIA Communities by Design.
She has been recognized by the NJ State Senate and General Assembly, Mercer County, AIA, YWCA and others for leadership in architecture, planning and community service.
She received a Bachelor of Architecture from Cornell University with a thesis on new town development based on multiple studios at Cornell and in England. She also holds a Masters of Infrastructure Planning from the College of Art and Design, NJIT with extensive experience in net zero policies and implementation.
