AIA Jersey Shore Has a Blast at the 15th Annual Ocean Fun Days!

For the second consecutive year, AIA Jersey Shore has participated in the NJ Sea Grant Consortium Ocean Fun Days Celebration. Held on May 19 at Island Beach State Park and May 20 at the Consortium on Sandy Hook,  AIA – Jersey Shore leaders Brian Penschow, AIA, and Kristen Wishart, AIA, engaged kids and parents alike.

“AIA – Jersey Shore had so much fun talking about sustainability, reduction of energy use, and what our favorite buildings are with kids and parents at Ocean Fun Days. AIA – Jersey Shore is honored to be included for the second time and look forward to 2019!” -Brian W. Penschow, AIA

Jessica O’Donnell, AIA, Brandon Warshofsky, AIA and Brian Penschow, AIA, greet the public at the AIA – Jersey Shore Table at Ocean Fun Days!

Other activities included exhibits, classes, nature tours, water sports demos, and children’s activities all about our coastal environment. Visitors had a great time learning the science of our shorelines and how to care for them for years to come! Guests tried out seining, coastal crafts, an energy-saving scavenger hunt, youth fishing clinics, face painting, touch tanks, a student science fair competition and the NJSGC’s famous fiddler crab races. The Sandy Hook location also featured guided tours of many of the area’s historic sites and an open house at the NOAA/James J. Howard Marine Sciences Laboratory.

The NJ Sea Grant Consortium is an affiliation of colleges, universities and other groups dedicated to advancing knowledge and stewardship of New Jersey’s marine and coastal environment and meets its mission through innovative research, education and extension programs. Their mission is to promote the wise use of New Jersey’s marine and coastal resources through research, education, and outreach.

AIA – Jersey Shore recently received this terrific thank you letter from the NJ Sea Grant Consortium…

Re: Ocean Fun Days 2018

Dear AIA Jersey Shore,

On behalf of all our partners and sponsors, we want to thank you for participating in our 15th Annual Ocean Fun Days. Ocean Fun Day’s mission is to promote understanding and stewardship of NJ’s marine and coastal resources and energy conservation. It is a great way to tell the public about your coastal-related program and energy conservation ideas. We appreciate your time and willingness to share your knowledge with the public and the activities for the children that you bring to the event.

Visitors tell me how much they enjoy Ocean Fun Days and many return each year. It is very important to all of us to be able to include your organization in this event and for you to get the word out about your organization and the great things you do.

We know it is your participation that helps to make the event a big success.  We hope you will consider joining us again next year. For 2019, the dates will be Saturday, May 18 at Island Beach State Park and Sunday, May 19 on Sandy Hook.

Thank you so much and have a great summer,

Rosemary Higgins

College and Special Programs Coordinator

NJ Sea Grant Consortium
