April 15, 1:00pm ET: School Design and Construction (An Architect’s Perspective) (1 LU / HSW)
Masonry buildings offer a wealth of health and safety benefits to the occupants, including mitigating moisture, protecting air quality, enhancing resiliency and safety, as well as energy performance. So why is masonry not the standard for every school?
In this session, three notable architects will walk through a deep-dive review of school design and construction and discuss the use of concrete masonry products. Attendees will walk away
with a better understanding of the best design practices and criteria used by architects in selecting materials and systems for school design, as well as preventative measures used to
maximize the health, safety and wellness of learners.

April 29, 1:00pm ET: Deck Materials and Sustainable Design (1 LU/ HSW)
Composite decking materials have become a viable and affordable choice in commercial and residential applications, resilient to the elements and sustainable over time. In this course we will introduce traditional and alternative deck surface materials and explore exterior deck design and construction strategies to ensure maximum lifespan, contributing to sustainable design efforts.
Join experts from Oldcastle APG as they summarize green building benefits of composite decking and creating safe and healthy outdoor spaces per today’s code standards, as well as best practices for moisture resistance, slip resistance, thermal expansion, hardness and weight, load capacity and more.

May 13, 1:00pm ET: PICP System Design and Construction (1 LU / HSW)
Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavers (PICP) are a cost-effective stormwater control measure that can beautify your property while enhancing sustainability, managing water runoff and decreasing your environmental footprint.
Join experts from Oldcastle APG as they provide an introduction to PICP systems, plus an overview of the challenges of impervious surfaces in achieving the goals of Low Impact Development, specifically stormwater infiltration practices through pavement surfaces. This course addresses designing for hydrological and structural requirements, and reviews required details, and the design approach discussed is based on the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institutes PICP design manual.

May 27, 1:00pm ET: LEED v4.1 Changes (1 LU / HSW)
Designing to LEED v4.1 will enable architects to provide healthier, more sustainable spaces for occupants and will benefit the overall environment.
Join sustainability expert Christine A. Subasic, PE as she discusses the changes from the LEED 2009 standard to the latest LEED v4.1 standard, with a specific focus on masonry.
This course will discuss how LEED fosters sustainable building, and the principal areas in which LEED v4.1 differs from previous versions of LEED in improving the level of energy savings and eliminating CO2 output. EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) and the (HPD) (Health Product Declaration) are important parts of LEED v.41, and the differences between the two reports will also be discussed to help architects effectively specify healthier, safer and higher-performing LEED v4.1-compliant buildings.

June 10, 1:00pm ET: Using PICP to Meet Stormwater Treatment Objectives (1 LU /HSW)
Stormwater management techniques seek to reduce runoff of rainwater or melted snow into streets, lawns and other sites in order to protect water quality). This course will focus on understanding the evolution of stormwater management strategies, comparing surface-based BMPs to manufactured treatment system options, and highlighting Permeable Interlocking
Concrete Pavement (PICP) systems as a viable solution to address conveyance and water quantity/quality objectives.
In this session, experts from Oldcastle APG will provide a summary of the academic and industry research to date using PICP for water treatment, along with strategies for combining the benefits of PICP with manufactured treatment systems. We will also identify how PICP systems can be used as part of a treatment train process and understand the general trend towards focusing on stormwater quality and treatment solutions.
