The Builders Association of Northern New Jersey Offers Scholarships for Architecture Students – April 1st Deadline

The Builders Association of Northern New Jersey Scholarship Foundation has monies available for students pursuing a career in the building industry in either a traditional college path or trade schools, including architecture and engineering.  Applications and details can be found at https://www.bannj.org/scholarship-foundation/.  Please share this information with anyone you know who would benefit from one of these scholarships.  The deadline for applications is April 1, 2022, and awards are presented at their Golf Outing & Scholarship Awards Dinner on May 23^rd.  

2022-2023 College & Trade School Scholarships Available

The charitable arm of the Builders Association of Northern New Jersey (BANNJ) is offering educational and technical training scholarships. These funds are available to Bergen, Hudson, Passaic and Sussex County residents intending to pursue a career associated with the home building/remodeling industry. These awards are funded through the generosity of BANNJ members and other interested parties. The Association is responding to the industry’s dire need for skilled craftsmen and craftswomen. Selected scholarships will be awarded as follows:

      The Donald Van Natta and The Alex Sands & Jeffrey C. Mathieu Memorial Scholarships: Each will grant up to a $1,000 scholarship to a qualified student for one school year of college or training in the trade.

      The John J. and Helen M. Durante Charitable Trust Scholarship: Offered through the Community Foundation of NJ and by the Durante Charitable Trust this scholarship is available to students who are committed to pursuing building/ remodeling industry-related education. A $4,000 grant will be awarded to one qualified student; $2,000 paid for the first year and $2,000 paid for the second year of study.  Applicants for this scholarship must be high school seniors planning to attend an accredited college or university.

       NJBA Trade School Scholarships will be awarded to an applicant or applicants who choose to pursue training in one of the building-industry trades in a trade school, other non-traditional college setting or traditional college.  Students should contact the BANNJ office directly to apply for this scholarship.

In all cases, candidates must be full-time or part-time students who will attend accredited institutions with the intent of pursuing a building/construction-related degree or certification. Construction-related is defined as general construction (i.e., carpenter, plumber, electrician, or any other trade-related to the building/remodeling industry) or degree programs including, but not limited to: Interior Design,  Drafting and Design, Construction Technology, Mechanical Contracting, HVAC Technology, Real Estate and Marketing, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Design, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Environmental Technology, Land Use Management, Construction and Business Management, and Landscape Architecture.

Scholarships will be awarded in the form of tuition paid directly to the institution. The selection process, conducted by the Scholarship Funds Committee, will be based on the following criteria: (1) the student’s desire to enter the building/remodeling industry as a career, (2) the student’s academic ability/potential and (3) the student’s financial need.

To be considered for all scholarships, students will need to complete the application from BANNJ and to be considered for the Durante scholarship, students must also complete a separate application from the Community Foundation of New Jersey.
