The Amerigo Vespucci Society (AVS) of Long Branch, NJ, a mutual aid society founded in 1875 and incorporated in 1893, is pleased to announce its 131st Anniversary “Man of The Year” Dinner at 6:00 pm on Saturday, June 8th at Breakers in Spring Lake, NJ.

About Robert (Bob) M. Iamello, AIA

Born August 22, 1953

Robert “Bob” Iamello grew up in West Long Branch, New Jersey, where his passion for Architecture began at a young age. Bob graduated from Shore Regional High School in 1971, the year he had competed in a State-wide Architectural drafting competition, winning an Honorable Mention Citation for his work. He attended Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, receiving an Associate in Engineering degree for Architectural Engineering Technology in 1973 before completing a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1977 from the University of Kentucky (UK).

Spending his final semester studying abroad in Venice, Italy, Bob’s interest in his Italian heritage began to blossom. Growing up in a family whose roots were in the southern Italian Region of Calabria, Bob had the opportunity to absorb enough of the beautiful Italian language spoken regularly by his grandparents and parents to make his first trip to Italy interesting and leave him wanting more.

After graduating from the UK in 1977, Bob was employed by the Architectural firm of Tomaino & Tomaino Architects, where the fundamentals of practical experience were gained. After marrying his beautiful wife Diane in 1980, Bob sought employment in New York City, working for the firm of Norman Rosenfeld Architects, specializing in Healthcare Facility design and private Educational Facility projects where his expertise in construction administration was grounded.

In 1985, Bob returned to New Jersey as Principal of Tomaino Tomaino Iamello & Associates (TTIA) where he assisted in growing the firm to approximately forty employees. The firm had begun to specialize in Healthcare, Educational, Municipal, and Multi-family projects. Bob introduced Computer Aided Drafting to the company, assisting in these new vertical markets within their portfolio. In 2006, the firm merged into Design Ideas Group.

In 2009, Bob joined the team at CiCara & Rubino Architects, a large Architectural firm in Wayne, New Jersey. The firm specialized in Educational Facilities, where Bob, Director of Construction Services, was responsible for Quality Control and Construction Administration for all projects. One of his largest project responsibilities included a new $110,000,000 Votech High School in Newark, New Jersey, located on the old site of United Hospitals, where Bob had done interior renovations with TTIA years prior.

After commuting to North Jersey for eleven years, Bob felt it was time to settle back in Ocean Township and be closer to his expanding family. This move, in 2020, provided him an opportunity to expand and grow Iamello Architectural Studio, LLC., a company that Bob and his daughter Marissa had started in 2014 to establish a local presence while working for other firms. After Marissa’s successful fight against cancer and the birth of Bob and Diane’s grandchildren, Marissa and her father decided to focus all attention on their Architectural firm.
It has paid off as they are very busy and have an impressive portfolio of clients.

Family has always been the core of Bob’s value system, as his wife Diane, daughter Marissa, and son Michael can attest to. As parents, Bob and Diane have always stressed the importance of family as their children and spouses continue to do with their newly created families. Bob and Diane now enjoy the blessings of 3 grandchildren: Kiera, Cecilia, and Adam.

As a member of the Amerigo Vespucci Society (AVS) Bob has always been, and continues to be active. He served as Sargent of Arms for four years, has assisted with various events, and has the honor of being the AVS’ unofficial Barista, serving espresso to members during
social hour before meetings. Most importantly, Bob values and shares a common core of Italian culture, history, ancestry, and usage of the Italian language. The organization appreciates Bob’s love of family and spending time with them, religion and maintaining Catholic traditions, and the pleasure of eating quality meals prepared with love and dedication. He often sits with his friends, reminiscing about his various trips to Italy.

Bob, your colleagues at AIA New Jersey and Jersey Shore congratulate you on being named the Amerigo Vespucci Society Man-of-the-Year—an honor well deserved!
