As an architect, interior space planner and furniture designer, the commitment of Florence Knoll made to design
excellence, in everything, resonates clearly. This program is an illustrative discussion of Florence Knoll’s
contribution to interior design in the context of her landmark 2005 exhibition for the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
This exhibition has been travelling to college art galleries throughout 2007, 2008 and into 2009.

This educational unit has been designed to educate architects, designers, contractors and installers about
specifying luxury kitchens for aging in place. The need for kitchens with Universal Design, which are
accessible for the greatest number of users no matter what their ability or disability is spelled out. This course
describes general design considerations to make a luxury kitchen suitable for all users and indicates which
features in cooking and refrigeration appliances are safe and accessible.

World renowned project architect of the transformation of Bell Labs into Bell Works.

Alexander Gorlin FAIA, a noted architect, urban planner, design critic and
author, is principal of Alexander Gorlin Architects. Founded in 1987, the firm
specializes in a wide range of design programs that span the economic and
cultural spectrum, including religious institutions, schools, high-end
residential and supportive and affordable housing. Gorlin is known for his
inventive use of space, light and natural materials. He holds architecture
degrees from Cooper Union and the Yale School of Architecture, and was a
Rome Prize Fellow at the American Academy in Rome. He is the author of
five books including two on the contemporary American Townhouses and
most recently on “Kabbalah in Art and Architecture,” which won the National
Jewish Book Award in 2013. Following his talk, he will give a book signing.

case studies, anecdotes, and discussion, Liza will share experiences, obstacles, and advice on crafting your
own design career (ranging from starting an entry level position, to launching your own design studio), and
will discuss the importance of our role as designers as we head into the future.
