Reading Time: 3 minutesBarry Poskanzer, AIA, of Poskanzer Skott has announced that his partner and friend, Lawrence H. Skott, AIA, passed away on Saturday, April 3, after a swift battle with liver cancer. His wife Monica and their sons Ryan and Erik were at his bedside. Barry and the firm are heartbroken over the loss.
In the early 1980s, Larry joined the architectural firm founded by Barry Poskanzer. It has proven to be a successful merger of partners with complementary spirits, skills and management styles who share an unwavering commitment to quality design and outstanding personal service.
Larry was a gifted and versatile architect with more than 35 years of experience in a wide range of building types, from small renovations to the construction of large-scale, complex new structures. His distinctive design and architectural abilities, outstanding management skills, and dedication to responsive client service have provided the impetus for the steady growth of the firm. Larry directed all aspects of the architectural practice including feasibility studies, schematic design, design development, construction documents, bidding, and construction administration.
He had in-depth experience in restoration, retrofits, and new construction of commercial office, retail and high-tech industrial buildings as well as medical R&D, educational, and computer facilities. Projects included the Ridge School, Ridgewood Savings Bank of New Jersey, Allendale Park, Mahwah Corporate Center, Allendale Corporate Center, and the Newport Office Centers.
In addition to staff management, Larry supervised major projects, from bidding and negotiations to preparation of documents, principal review and approval of contracts, specification writing, feasibility studies, and space planning. He was a former chair of the Wyckoff, NJ, Architectural Review Board and served on the Construction Board of Appeals in Ridgewood, NJ. Larry’s focus on detail provided a value-added factor to working with Poskanzer Skott: clients knew that careful attention was paid to the critical factors, large and small, that ultimately determine the success of a project.
Larry graduated from Ohio State in 1974 with a B. Arch. He was registered to practice architecture in New Jersey and New York. He was certified by the National Council of Architectural Review Boards and a member of the American Institute of Architects, the New Jersey Society of Architects, the Architects League of Northern New Jersey, the International Code Council and Construction Specifications Institute.
