April 11, 2023
Reading Time: 5 minutesGovernor Murphy and AIA New Jersey President Ronald Weston, AIA, have declared Sunday, April 16th – Saturday, April 22nd New Jersey Architecture Week 2023! Each day of the week, a different region of New Jersey will be highlighted with recognition.
The Schedule of Events is as follows:
To commemorate New Jersey Architecture Week, AIA Newark & Suburban Architects is thrilled to announce an exhibition of artwork by Northern New Jersey area students, grades 6-12, and AIA Members, opening April 5, 2023, at the Main Branch of the Montclair Library. The show will run through April 28th, with an official reception on April 22nd, from 10am-1pm.
The exhibition will include drawings, paintings, and software renderings by students who entered our Winter Holiday Student Art Contest and were recognized with achievement awards for their creative and thoughtful designs. Alongside these student designs, will be artwork by professional architects of the AIA who enjoy making art in their spare time. Daily, we can see what architects create—their important work surrounds us in the built environment. This exhibition, however, gives us further insight into what inspires members of this profession, and how they visualize the world in even more abstract and improvisational ways.
On April 16th, we will be celebrating selected works by AIA South Jersey members with social media posts on https://www.facebook.com/
AIA NJ will also release a virtual storytime video of a new children’s book written and illustrated by AIA NJ President Ron Weston, AIA, in honor of NJ Architecture Week. Visit our YouTube channel to view: https://www.youtube.com/user/aianj
On April 17th, we will be celebrating selected works by AIA West Jersey members with social media posts on https://
Additionally on April 17, please join us for the AIA NJ Inaugural Lecture at the School of Public Architecture, Michael Graves College, Kean University, Kean Hall at 5 pm.
We are most pleased to have distinguished architect Susan T. Rodriguez, FAIA, present her current work. Ms. Rodriguez is the founder of STR | A-D, which has carried out major projects in New York City and its environs, as well as across America and in Zambia. She describes her practice as “…Designing at the intersection of architecture and the public realm, the studio distills the essence of cultures and communities through work that ranges in scale and type, from interventions in historic precincts to new large-scale monumental buildings. To each project, STR | A·D brings an attitude about design that connects people to place and to each other through an architecture of interpretation…”
No RSVP is required and all are invited to this free event. Refreshments will be provided after the presentation and questions from the audience. Parking is available adjacent to Kean Hall. Michael Graves College thanks AIA NJ for their support of our programs and our students.
On April 18th, AIA Central New Jersey member firms are inviting local high school students, college students and the general public to join in a series of open houses designed to illustrate what a career in architecture and design can mean for young people.
Firms will open their doors from 3pm to 6pm on Tuesday, April 18th, 2023, and host any and all who sign up to visit. Attendees will learn about how architects, interior designers, and their teams are creatively inspired, how they integrate sustainability into their practices, how they foster community relationships and the practice of design.
If you are considering a career in design or are simply interested in what architects in your community do, please review the list of participating member firms, choose where you would like to visit, and sign up here:
