We Share The Passing of Jerome Morley Larson Sr., AIA

The family of Jerome Morley Larson, Sr., AIA, has notified AIA New Jersey of his passing on October 21, 2023. The centenarian had been a member of AIA NJ since 1965. He was an AIA Member Emeritus.

Jerry was a dynamic activist and freely willing to share his experience, wisdom and opinions with any audience. According to AIA Jersey Shore President, Arnold Boyle, “Jerry always made our section meetings more lively and even attended a meeting this past Wednesday.  A true passionate Architect!”

Jersey Shore Past President, Brian Penschow, remarked, “I’m sad to have lost my friend Jerry this weekend. He will be missed. What strikes me most is that this hits all of us in “the wisdom” lost. A long contemplated life has such value in the perspective gained by living. We are all diminished by losing that point of view. Return safely to the Earth my Earth-architect friend.”

Colleague George Sincox, AIA, recalls, “As a matter of AIA NJ history, Jerry Larsen was a well-respected leader and architect practicing in the shore area when I was an intern in Pat Gilvary’s office in the late 1970’s. Jerry has always been very opinionated in every respect of the profession. His memory should be treated with respect for his work leading to the place we have arrived.”

AIA NJ Past President, Bruce Turner, AIA, commented, “This is very sad news. Jerry was the consummate architect. There was no problem he couldn’t solve with architecture. He made no little plans. He was a true gentleman and he inspired us all to do better. He will be missed.” Jerry served on the AIA NJ Executive Committee during Past President Stacey Ruhle Kliesch, AIA’s presidency. She recalls Jerry’s confidence and enthusiasm in making bold suggestions for the organization, envisioning a better future for AIA, the profession and mankind.
