Member Benefits Abound from the Small Firm Exchange

The AIA Small Firm Exchange (SFx) is dedicated to advancing the interests of architects working in small firms. Our mission encompasses three core objectives: advocating for small firms’ value within the AIA and to the public, curating and sharing vital resources and information that benefit these firms, and keeping the AIA informed about the current challenges and resource gaps facing small firms.

The AIA New Jersey branch of the SFx is a vibrant community of volunteers dedicated to presenting regular programming of interest to small firms. Lisa Walzer, AIA, and Sloan Springer, AIA, serve as the state co-chairs. Ruchi Dhar, AIA, is a past co-chair and our current state representative to the National SFx. AIA NJ Past President Joshua Zinder, AIA, is a member of the SFx National Board.

Our recent statewide events have included “Intro to AI for Architects,” which delved into integrating artificial intelligence for architectural practice, and “Leveraging Social Media for Success for Small Firms,” offering strategies to enhance visibility and engagement. We also explored the topic of accessory dwelling units. Looking ahead, we are excited about our upcoming “Mini-MBA for Architects,” which aims to equip architects with key management skills, and a session on “3D-Scanning for Small Firm Architects,” focusing on the latest technologies to improve project accuracy and efficiency.

If you would like to volunteer for the SFx or join the distribution list, please contact Lisa Walzer, AIA, at lisa@walzerarchitecture.com or Sloan Springer, AIA, at sloan@springer.archi
