This special event will honor the recipients of the 2024 AIA Central NJ Design Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to our profession.The evening will feature an awards ceremony, an elegant dinner and an insightful course led by J. Robert Hillier, FAIA, LHD, a highly acclaimed architect whose legacy in architecture spans decades. Hillier will share his unique perspective on the intersection of design, business, and education, offering an inside look at his approach to architecture and the success of his firm, Studio Hillier. This is a night to celebrate excellence in our field and connect with peers and leaders in architecture! Course Description In this course, Central New Jersey’s legacy architect, J. Robert Hillier, FAIA, LHD, a leading and highly respected architect known for having built one of the most successful architecture firms in the world, will share compelling insight on how he came to be so widely distinguished for design, business acumen and for his contributions to the field of architecture as both practitioner and educator. As an inspiring speaker, he will share years of wisdom and savvy in the practice, art, science and business world of architecture. Learn through hearing the inside story about his life’s work, and what has made Studio Hillier so successful. Studio Hiller LLC, co-founded in 2011 with his wife, the late Barbara A. Hillier, AIA, was built with a commitment to beautiful and smart architecture that creates safer, healthier, and more sustainable spaces. Learning Objectives:
1 LU|HSW Submitted Guest Speaker J. Robert Hillier, FAIA, LHD, has been on the core faculty of Princeton University’s School of Architecture since 1992 where he teaches two graduate seminars. He has served on the AIA National Fellowship Jury and as Chair of the Selection Committee for the Dean of Princeton’s School of Architecture. He has received over 350 honors and awards including an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from New Jersey Institute of Technology and an Honorary MBA from Bryant University. Other honors include the Legacy Award from the Urban Land Institute, the AIA’s Michael Graves Lifetime Achievement Award, and The President’s Medal from New Jersey Institute of Technology. He is also a Trustee Emeritus at McCarther Theater and Peddie School. He has given over 200 lectures and participated in dozens of design juries. He and the firm have been widely published in national and international journals, newspapers, and magazines. In May of 2019, the New Jersey Institute of Technology renamed its Architecture School the J. Robert and Barbara A. Hillier College of Architecture and Design.
